Guardrail System

Information
  • 45″ StrapRail® Posts
  • OSHA compliant guardrail with top rail, midrail & toeboard
  • Use with Striped Guardrail Scafnet® to prevent debris from falling or blowing through
  • Each Strap Kit contains all the components needed for 1 rail member
  • Each orange strap is 4″ wide & tensioned using its own ratchet
  • The maximum possible tension applied is 2,500 lb. per strap
  • A structural engineer must verify the adequacy of the supporting structure prior to each installation

Superchute® can provide free and helpful sketches within 24 hours.

A Site Sketch :

  • Shows a clear image of the Guardrail on the jobsite
  • Shows the precise quantity of StrapRail® needed for the job
  • Shows how to achieve proper positioning

StrapRail® complies with:

  • Full compliance with US Federal OSHA Standard 1926.502 “Fall Protection” – click here for more information
  • Cal/OSHA (horizontal load of 20 pounds per lineal foot at the top rail)
  • Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, REGULATION 213/91 FOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS Section 26.3(5) (point load of 150 pounds applied to every 8 feet of guardrail at the top rail equivalent to 19 lb per linear foot)
  • Quebec’s CCST Safety Code for the Construction Industry, 3.8.3

Other guardrails:

  • Temporary guardrails are usually constructed of wood, steel or wire rope with netting & not usually tested after installation
  • Workers & safety inspectors do not deliberately lean on these barriers since they suspect the guardrail could fail
  • Wood guardrails are costly to build and the lumber is scrapped at the end of the job
  • Steel guardrails are heavy and require ample storage space
  • Wire rope guardrails are often slack which allows the top rail wire to deflect below the OSHA minimum height of 39″

StrapRail®

  • Installed StrapRail® System is under continuous self-test with considerable tension on the straps & anchors
  • Fully tensioned state proves anchors have been correctly installed & that the railing is safe for use
  • No other temporary guardrail system offers this self test benefit
  • Workers & safety inspectors can deliberately lean on our system without fear of falling
  • StrapRail® is fully engineered, lightweight & reusable for many years
  • It is compact and easily transportable or shipped
  • We can quote & manufacture customized systems for your needs

The StrapRail® Installation Manual is a comprehensive guide to StrapRail® installation (for planners, supervisors, installers, and users of StrapRail® Guardrails).

Noose Post With 3 Noose Belts

  • Use Superchute® Noose Belts to set StrapRail® anchors on existing structural columns (steel or concrete columns only)
  • A single noose belt serves up to 2 orange railing straps – use either leg independently
  • Each tensioned leg of the noose belt will apply 2000 lb of lateral force to the column
  • A structural engineer must verify the adequacy of the selected columns before the installation is performed
  • Noose belts provide system independence – you can slacken an orange railing strap without a knock-on effect
  • For use on square columns measuring up to 12″ x 12” or round columns up to 12” diameter

A Belted Post Kit consists of:

  • 1 Basic Column Post
  • 3 Blue Buckle Belts each with a Captive Buckle

Basic Column Post:

  • For setting the Blue Buckle Belts
  • In yellow plastic and aluminum with 2 red straps
  • Lash the post to an existing column

Buckle Belt Anchor:

  • Blue polyester webbing
  • 13′ x 4″ with 1 Captive Buckle
  • Does not allow for adjacent systems to be added (dead-end system)

Belted Post

  • Use these column posts if the proposed site has existing columns to quickly erect the guardrail
  • No tools needed for the installation

Plastic Column Posts (Not Anchored)

  • Lightweight solution for a non-anchored system
  • The post maintains the railing straps at the correct height

Kit:

  • 3 Blue Column Belts

Guide Posts

Use the following 45″ StrapRail® Guardrail Guide Posts posts to prevent outward and downward movement of the straps.

45" StrapRail® Plastic Column Post Guide (Strap On)

Basic Column Post (Strap on)

  • For attachment to the inboard face of an existing structural column
  • Plastic profile mounted to an aluminum track
  • 2 red captive ratchet straps

Outboard Column Post (Strap on)

  • For attachment to the outboard face of the structural column
  • Designed to keep the orange rail straps tight against the column, near the slab edge
  • Allows workers to benefit from maximum access to the working surface
  • Perfect for slab troweling projects where close access to slab edge is highly desirable
  • Maximum retention of the orange rail straps against the column is ensured by means of 4 red captive cinch straps
  • Can also be installed Inboard

Outboard Installation

Inboard Installation

Corner Guards prevent corner chafe (use on on existing columns)

Square Corner Guards consists of:

  • 90 degree plastic profile
  • 2 red captive ratchet straps

Round Corner Guards consists of:

  • 3 plastic profiles
  • 2 red captive ratchet straps
Square Corner Guard Guide Post (Strap on)

Round Corner Guards Guide Post (Strap on)

Midway Post (Bolt Down)

  • For instances where other types of belted guide posts cannot be used (example: lack of existing columns)
  • Install Midway Posts between 2 Anchor Posts to prevent outward and downward deflection of the guardrail system
  • Any StrapRail® system requires a fixed guide post every 50 feet or less
  • Made from Galvanized Steel, Aluminum and Plastic
  • Requires 4 anchor bolts

Clamp Posts

StrapRail® requires a post every 10’. Use these lightweight clamping posts to meet this requirement.
These posts will stiffen the guardrail and prevent deflection of the straps below the OSHA mandated height of 39”.

Anti-Deflection Post

  • For inboard installations
  • Robust aluminum angle construction
  • Must be clamped to the 3 straps every 10 feet

45" Anti-Deflection Post Guide (Free Standing)
45" Anti-Deflection Post Guide (Free Standing) - Installed

Anti-Deflection Post with Foot

  • For edge-of-slab installations
  • 6” foot provides ample & secure engagement on the floor slab
  • Must be clamped to the 3 straps every 10 feet

45" Anti-Deflection Clamp Post with Foot

Spacing Strap for Posts

  • Use to ensure the distance between any type of StrapRail post does not exceed 10 ft.
  • In any given run, post spacing that ends up being less than 10 ft is acceptable
  • Post-to-post spacing that exceeds 10 ft is unacceptable and presents a safety hazard

StrapRail® Guy Rope Kit

Optional overhead restraint for preventing outboard deflection in guardrail spans that lack fixed Guide Posts. Guy Rope shackle connects to the upper tip of the Anti-Deflection Post. Install every 30′ or less in lieu of fixed Guide Posts.

  • Red polyester webbing
  • 40′ x 1″ with captive ratchet & shackle
